In near new condition.

Very easy. Great demand. Very high profit margins.

I used this cart for two Christmas seasons and this summer season. I sold caramelised nuts and spiced mulled apple juice (Christmas) and homemade lemonade (summer)
Simple recipe with no risk of food expiring so very little waste (Nuts & sugar - nothing else. And for the drink apple juice, cinnamon, orange zest and star anise - heat it - Serve it. That's it!

I came up with this idea after watching this on YouTube:

“The famous roasted nut carts of new York city”

But added on the drink to maximise profit per sale.

Easy to run with just one person as it's so simple.

I sold nuts / mulled juice because it was easy and made money. However, as it is essentially a cart with two burners and a sink, so you can cook anything you want from it.

No insurance costs - No Maintenace. Free to store if you have the space and no upkeep.

As the cart is only 1.4M I could set up in places the larger units couldn't so away from the other food vendors who were all outside (so no competition) In high footfall areas (I could often just squeeze onto the end of a row) and indoors!

Also, because it was such a small unit, the stand would be inexpensive and often I could get in places that were fully booked to everyone else.

The cart cost new £5495 + VAT

+ 20 litre gas catering urn £330 + Copper pans £200

Total £6530 +VAT (£7836 inc.)

Selling because this was a side-line to my other business (I help people with insomnia) My main business has now taken off, so I don't have the time to run the food business anymore.

No risk - Comparatively inexpensive unit compared to catering vans etc and you could use it a few years, lick of paint and you could sell it on for the same price you bought for. (You also don't have to pay VAT which you would have done if buying new!)

You’ll need a trailer or a high top van to transport.

If you are thinking of carrying on with the nuts / spiced mulled apple juice I’ve done the margins for you below. I’d recommend it as it’s tried and tested, it’s easy and works!

40% Sugar.
40% Peanuts
10% Cashew nuts
10% Almonds

Serving 100g approx.

Sugar 65p per KG (= 2.6p per serving)
Peanuts 12.05 per 2.5 kg / 4.82 per kg (Grape Tree) (= 20p per serving)
Cashews 10.99 per kg (grape tree) (= 11p per serving)
Almonds 7.49 per kg (grape tree) (= 8p per serving)

Bamboo serving cone (21p)
Gas price per serving approx (8p)

Total: 70p

Sale price £2.90 (I experimented with the price and this worked the best)

Profit £2.20

Margin- £76%

(you can reduce costs by buying the nuts for even cheaper online or when you buy in bulk from grape tree as they do offers. I’ve had it around 80% margin with bulk buying. The bamboo cones are quite expensive but would attract lots of buyers when other people saw people eating them – the takeaway paper bags are much cheaper)

Spiced Mulled Juice:

Costs: 1 litre apple juice (cloudy ideally) 79p 3 X serving per litre = 26p
Spices – cinnamon, star anise, orange zest. Approx 5p per serving.
Gas approx 10p per serving
Cup 9p (ripple 12 0Z)

Total 50p
